GOODLAND MAN TAKES TICK DIP BY MISTAKE, DIES
A swallow of tick dip mistaken for cough medicine was blamed for the death of Daniel J. Kirkland, 78, of Goodland, Saturday morning. Kirkland had taken the patented mixture at his home in Goodland and had driven to the Kneir Shell Station on Central Avenue and the Trail. While backing out of a parking space there at 8:27 Saturday morning he collapsed. Police were called and he was rushed to Naples Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. A lifelong resident of Collier County, Kirkland was employed as a commercial fisherman. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs Vera Marie Smith, two sons, James Jackson Kirkland and Theodore Kirkland, all of Naples, a brother Arthur of Goodland, eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are being made at the Earl G. Hodges Funeral Chapel in Naples.
